✳ Connectionism (PLT076) ✳

‘Connectionism’ is the forthcoming eight-track album by Christopher Waver, scheduled to release on April 20th through his independent label, PLUTO Sound. The album takes listeners on a journey through a complex network of interconnected musical ideas, exploring themes of memory and the human brain, and how our recollections can distort and fade over time, altering our whole perception of reality.

The album's title is drawn from the philosophy of connectionism, the "first school" of artificial intelligence, which aims to understand how people learn and remember, and the workings of the brain at the neural level. It models mental or behavioral phenomena as processes that arise from interconnected units. The theory suggests that learning is a product between stimulus and response. A stimulus is something that causes a reaction, while a response is the reaction to a stimulus.

In addition to the thematic inspiration, the album is dotted with AI-generated speech and vocal sounds, which feature in nearly every track. While the songs primarily adhere to a 4/4 club framework, the storytelling approach renders them more suitable for home listening. The tracklist includes 'Bearings', the first single released in September 2022, 'Waters of Cadenza', which featured on last year's PLUTO 'INFINITY' compilation album, and six new compositions. The song 'Lightning by Design' also features keyboardist Bálint Kriska, aka Phloberon.

Kristóf Huszár aka Christopher Waver is a restless local electronic artist from Budapest, committed to pushing the boundaries of electronic dance music and exploring new ways to create sounds with careful attention to detail. Along with producing and playing bass for the bands AGAVOID and SYNONYMS, he has established his own label, PLUTO Sound.

In his solo project, sound design takes center stage as recorded audio blends seamlessly with digital noise, creating a unique listening experience. Drawing inspiration from a range of genres, including house, funk, disco, and electronica from the 90s, Christopher has crafted his own distinct world that comes to life in his ever-evolving live/DJ set hybrid performances.

Since 2015, Christopher has released two full-length albums, two EPs, and numerous singles, and has contributed his talents as a producer and graphic designer to various projects. His 2016 album was featured on the top albums of the year lists for Recorder, Stenk, and Phenom'enon magazines. He has also produced remixes for a range of artists, including Volkova Sisters, Anima Sound System, Middlemist Red, Passive Collider, ONAKOM, parallel patterns and Isle of Man.
